Dutch Warmblood gelding

During the canter pirouette, the horse's hindquarters remain in relatively the same area while the forehand describes a circle around the hindquarters. Canter pirouettes are first called for in the AHSA fourth level tests, and are seen throughout the international level tests.
This animated .gif shows Avontuur, a Dutch Warmblood gelding, performing a full (360 degree) canter pirouette to the left. Note that, while the circle his hindquarters describes is rather larger than desirable at the highest levels, his canter remains clear and rhythmic throughout the movement.
